Manchester United’s talent identification has had numerous hits and misses over the years.
One player the club might have been right all along on, is wonderkid Sergey Pinyaev.
Pinyaev held trials at Manchester United in 2015, but with Russia a non-EU country, he was unable to join the Red Devils until he turned 18.
Now 18, Pinyaev is doing his best to attract United’s attention, despite the political situation hampering a potential deal.

Sergey Pinyaev upstaged Manchester United youngster Zidane Iqbal this weekend when he helped Russia to a 2-0 international victory over Iraq.
He played 71 minutes, created three chances and made five successful dribbles in a lively display in his third international game.
Pinyaev signed for Lokomotiv Moscow in the winter window, signing a contract to 2026. The young winger now has four goals in 14 league games this season.

After one of his trials at Manchester United, Chernatovo Moscow director Nikolai Larin told Sport-Express: “At Man Utd they say that Pinyaev is the brightest player who has come to the club for an internship over the past 15 years.”
In an interview with Man United Zone in December 2019, Pinyaev added:”I want to play in first team for Manchester United and like to play in national team for Russia. Play in MU and English Premier League is dream for me.”
He is halfway there, now an international for Russia – although former star Andrei Kanchelskis last week warned a deal may not materialise with United.
Manchester United cancelled a deal with Russian sponsors Aeroflot last year, and the prospects of a deal with a Russian club for Pinyaev appear unlikely.
Instead the winger’s best chance of a move to Old Trafford is to make a move to another foreign club as a stepping stone, and hope Manchester United then buy him from there.
