BBC pundit Chris Sutton has predicted a tricky afternoon for Manchester United against Wolves on Saturday.
United return to Old Trafford after two away games back to back in the league. These two away games also provided two consecutive losses for Erik ten Hag’s men.
1-0 defeats against both Brighton and West Ham, have left United in a top four fight. Both defeats came in disappointing circumstances, with a late penalty at the Amex and David de Gea‘s blunder at the London Stadium last Sunday.
In his weekly predictions on the BBC website, Chris Sutton has expressed his concern at the current situation at the club.
“I am starting to slightly worry about Manchester United. They have lost their past two games, and only managed one goal in the past 315 minutes they’ve played.”
He continued to emphasise the closing gap, with Liverpool making a late charge.
“Most of their problems have come away from Old Trafford but the heat is really on them now, because Liverpool are right on their tail in the race for the top four.”
However despite his concern he does think United should have enough to get by Wolves, given De Gea is on form.
“This game is going to be a lot closer than that, because Manchester United are nowhere near as expansive as the Seagulls are, but as long as David de Gea puts his gloves on the right way, I still think Erik ten Hag’s side will find a way to win.”
Sutton concluded that a 2-0 win for the Red Devils could be on the cards.
A must win game for United
With last weekends loss, United are now only one point ahead of Liverpool, however do have a game in hand. This making the top four race a lot closer than it seemed only two weeks ago.
United will likely need three wins from their last four in order to secure Champions League football. The schedule does favour them with three home games in the last four, but they need to beat Wolves.
A trip to the south coast against Bournemouth awaits next weekend. This is followed by a Thursday night game at home against Frank Lampard’s blues. They then welcome Fulham to Old Trafford on Sunday the 28th in the seasons finale.
A busy few weeks await United, so much on the line. Including the historic Manchester Derby to decide the FA Cup final.
