Report: Manchester United facing 'losing battle' to sign £100m forward

Manchester United’s striker hunt this summer is apparent, with Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane touted as the main target.

Despite this it’s been reported by the Mirror that Erik ten Hag fears he may miss out on England’s record goalscorer. This doesn’t mean the club will give up on the Spurs forward, but that it might be a losing battle.

United reportedly see Kane as the ideal number nine, for ten Hag to continue his sides development. A striker seems to be of key importance this summer, given the struggles in front of goal.

United believe signing Kane will be very tough, having seen the trouble Man City had two seasons ago. Daniel Levy is a renowned shrewd negotiator and also known to be adamantly against the departure of his ‘franchise player’ in Kane.

United have made other plans in the event a transfer for Kane doesn’t materialise this summer.

The alternatives to Kane

Due to the fear of Kane not being attainable, United are making contingency plans. With names like Victor Osimhen and Goncalo Ramos linked to the Theatre of Dreams.

Osimhen has just came off a barn storming season with Napoli, leading them to their first league title in 33 years. 23 goals and five assists in his best season to date, Osimhen has arrived as a world class talent.

The Nigerian would bring clinical finishing, power, pace and an extremely high ceiling to United. This could be exactly what United need, he’s sure to benefit from Bruno Fernandes’ over the top through balls.

Ramos burst into the world’s eyes in the World Cup. Replacing Cristiano Ronaldo, he bagged a hat-trick in Portugal’s 6-1 win. Benfica’s number nine has 17 goals and six assists in his breakout year.

Similarly to Kane, Ramos offers more in all-round play given he can drop back into the 10. This could be an interesting dynamic allow United to interchange their frontline in game, opposed to Osimhen who is a true number nine.
