Club president issues transfer warning over Manchester United target

Manchester United’s pursuit of the Premier League-linked Randal Kolo Muani may have just become that little bit harder with Bayern Munich confirming they have 100 million euros to spend on a new striker.

With Victor Osimhen likely to stay at Napoli – and with Manchester United burned by past experiences with Daniel Levy as they look to avoid a summer-long Harry Kane saga – Kolo Muani could quickly find himself emerging as a priority for Erik ten Hag and co.

‘Detailed talks’ are already underway for the Eintracht Frankfurt forward, via The Athletic. The 2022 Europa League winners value Kolo Muani at a staggering sum, somewhere in the region of £100 million. A fee that some suggested would rule out a Bayern Munich side who have only twice spent over £50 million on a single player (Lucas Hernandez and Matthijs de Ligt).

President Herbert Hainer, however, insists that the Bundesliga champions can go head-to-head with the likes of Manchester United for Kolo Muani’s signature. As emphasised by their high-profile pursuit of West Ham captain Declan Rice, Bayern are readying themselves for a club-record outlay as they look to bounce back from a difficult campaign both on and off the pitch.

Manchester United face Bayern Munich battle

“There aren’t many strikers who can play at this level,” Hainer tells Corriere dello Sport; a Robert Lewandowski-shaped hole in Bayern’s frontline. “That’s why the same names are always mentioned. The competition is fierce for them.

“As a striker costs a lot, we have to make sure he fits in well at Bayern. The same names are mentioned in the media; Randal Kolo Muani, Harry Kane, Victor Osimhen, and Dusan Vlahovic.

“We are looking closely at them to see who suits Bayern best. We are also analysing the economic aspect. I am convinced that we will find a good solution.

“FC Bayern is able to spend 100 million euros. But, of course, everything has to be right for a transfer like this. We’re looking for a centre-forward – but unfortunately there aren’t that many like that and they’re all quite expensive.”

According to The Independent, Bayern believe they have ‘everything in place’ to sign Kolo Muani in a deal potentially worth £100 million. The France international – who joined Frankfurt from Nantes for nothing just 12 months ago – mustered 40 goal contributions during his debut campaign in Germany (23 goals and 17 assists).

United, meanwhile, continue to make progress in a deal for Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund. A self-professed ‘huge Manchester United fan’; Hojlund spoke openly about his interest in a move to Old Trafford again this week.

“There was no video meeting,” Hojlund tells MRE.

“It is a great club. I must have done something right if it is written that they would like me! My goal is to reach the highest level. And you could say that Manchester United is there (at the highest level).

“So it would be huge.”
