Manchester United have been linked with Robin Koch amid confusion surrounding his Leeds United contract situation.
We’re expecting to see rumour after rumour regarding a centre back joining Manchester United this summer.
Much will depend on Harry Maguire’s future at Old Trafford, given rumours that he could leave the club this summer.
The rumour mill is already churning though with United already linked with moves for Kim Min-jae, Axel Disasi and Jean-Clair Todibo.
A more bizarre link emerged just a few days ago with Leeds United defender Robin Koch mentioned.
Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reported that Koch is on the list of Manchester United’s summer transfer targets.
Plettenberg claimed that ‘loose talks’ had been held for Koch to join the Red Devils this summer.
It’s not often we see Leeds players linked with making the rather controversial move to Old Trafford.
Koch was a rumour few United fans could have expected but there is still confusion surrounding his Leeds contract.
Conflicting claims emerge on Robin Koch’s contract
Plettenberg claims that Koch can actually leave Leeds for free this summer.
The Whites going down to the Championship has – according to Plettenberg – activated a clause which means he can leave for nothing.
Koch allegedly wants to become a leader in his next club and wants to play for Germany at Euro 2024.
Whether Koch would receive that kind of role at Manchester United is up for debate, as is the claim about his ability to leave for nothing.
Leeds Live report that the claims of Koch being able to leave for free aren’t true and Leeds can command a fee for the German.
It’s unclear just how much that would be, but Leeds forked out £13million to sign Koch from Freiburg in 2020.
Even if Leeds only get their money back on Koch, that would still be a price that United may find appealing.
We would still be very surprised to see Koch to join Erik ten Hag’s side this summer but United may well be investigating just how much it would really cost to sign him.
