It is now July 1, and Manchester United do not have David de Gea under contract any longer.
An extension is not totally ruled out – but it appears the club are planning a deal for Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana.
Now, via an update from Fabrizio Romano, quoting Inter Milan chief executive Giuseppe Marotta, who has publicly confirmed Manchester United’s interest.
A bid from Manchester United is expected – although has not been submitted yet.

Andre Onana update
Marotta states: “Manchester United confirmed to us that they’re interested in Andre Onana.
“We are waiting for an official proposal in the next days then we will decide how to react after.
“Our director Piero Ausilio is working on it but there’s still no official bid from Man United, at this stage.”
Contrast to Mason Mount negotiations
The way Inter Milan have commented on this, publicly and openly, is in direct contrast to Manchester United’s negotiations to sign Mason Mount.
In that instance, neither Chelsea or Manchester United commented publicly, although there was plenty of briefing to the media from both sides behind the scenes.
Inter operate differently, openly, and their stance allows Manchester United fans a little more clarity on the state of play.
United, it had been expected, might have submitted a bid by now. Gianluca di Marzio had suggested that June 30 would be a ‘decisive day’ for the Onana negotiations.
Instead, we wait, for United to lodge the offer to bring Onana to Manchester United. Inter’s asking price of 50 million Euros up front has been pretty clear throughout.
The worry for United fans, is that the club are stringing Inter along, in order to pressure David de Gea into signing a contract on a low salary. Nothing can be ruled out, however, if the Spaniard does begin next season as the club’s number one, a lot of supporters will be left unhappy.
