Manchester United remain interested in signing AS Monaco defender Axel Disasi this summer as the French side set their asking price.
Erik ten Hag has suffered in this transfer window with multiple first choice signings already proving out of reach. This has prompted Manchester United chiefs to begin looking at other options.
Defence has been a particular area of focus, with Napoli defender Kim Min-jae identified as a top target. He now appears set to instead join Bayern Munich. Therefore ten Hag’s focus has shifted to AS Monaco defender Axel Disasi.
French journalist Fabrice Hawkins reported for RMC Sport that the French side have set a €40million (£34m) price tag on the France international.
He continues to explain that the Red Devils haven’t made an offer yet. However they are thought to lead the race with ten Hag planning on speaking to the player soon.
The defender has been compared with Liverpool’s Virgil van Djik by football talent scout Jacek Kulig, due to being “dominant” and “complete”.
United need to sell before they buy Disasi
The centre-back position for United isn’t a priority in terms of right now, with Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane both likely to start regardless of signings.
Therefore due to this and the clubs current financial situation, United could instead wait for any defensive sales to transpire before moving for a new defender.
Harry Maguire should be on his way out, after falling out of favour at the club finding himself fifth choice. Victor Lindelof has been linked with a move to Frankfurt despite ten Hag blocking the transfer.
Eric Bailly, Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe have all either left or will be leaving, so another sale in this position and move for Disasi could transpire.
Disasi would likely be an option behind Varane initially with a view to the two swapping as United’s number 19 gets older.
