Report: Manchester United given hope of 43m signing as club start talks to sign replacement

Manchester United’s hopes of signing Andre Onana are rising amid claims Inter Milan have already picked out a replacement.

It looks like Manchester United will be very interested in signing goalkeepers this summer.

Dean Henderson expects to join Nottingham Forest this summer according to reports from the Manchester Evening News.

Then we come to David De Gea, whose contract expires in just a couple of days.

The Athletic claim that an agreed contract extension was scrapped at the 11th hour, leaving De Gea’s future up in the air.

United may well look to land a new first-choice stopper and one name is being heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford – Andre Onana.

Manchester United given new hope of Andre Onana deal

Gazzetta dello Sport report that there is willingness from both United and Inter Milan to get a deal done for Onana this week.

Sport Mediaset also claimed this week that United are pushing to sign Onana a deal worth around €50million (£43million).

Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag knows Onana well having coached him at Ajax.

A reunion could now be on the cards after Onana impressed in goal for Inter, helping them reach the Champions League final.

The Cameroonian is just what Ten Hag wants in terms of his ability to play out from the back and would be a huge upgrade on De Gea in that department.

United fans may question the reliability of reports in Italy but the rumours do seem to be accelerating rapidly.

Calciomercato now claim that Inter have started working on a deal to sign a replacement for Onana in Anatoliy Trubin.

It’s stated that Inter are trying to bring Trubin to the San Siro as he enters the final year of his Shakhtar Donetsk contract.

Trubin is understood to have impressed against Inter in years gone by and talks are underway for the 21-year-old to make a big move.

Inter are also set to lose veteran stopper Samir Handanovic but replacing the experienced backup with a young up-and-comer would be a surprise.

Gazzetta dello Sport specifically note that Trubin would be a replacement for Onana with Inter seemingly feeling a move to United is a real possibility.

United fans will feel that this is all moving in the right direction and Onana could well be Ten Hag’s new first-choice stopper next season.
