60m Mason Mount better than 65m Arsenal 40m Tottenham deals says pundit

Manchester United are set to tie up the deal to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea, in one of the big early Premier League deals this summer.

No longer the odd one out, Manchester United are set to complete a signing, with Mason Mount due to undergo a medical.

United are set to pay £60 million including add-ons for Mount, Sky Sports report.

And in a segment via ESPN FC, the incoming signing has been tipped as the best signing of all the midfielders joining new clubs this summer so far.

Mason Mount better than Kai Havertz and James Maddison

Mason Mount’s England international teammate James Maddison recently joined Tottenham in a £40 million deal.

His former Chelsea teammate Kai Havertz has made the switch to Arsenal, a move costing the Gunners £65 million.

Asked who is the best signing of the trio, pundit Steve Nicol told ESPN FC that Manchester United are getting the superior deal.

He explained: “Somebody can always say he didn’t have a good season last year, that is correct, coupled with injury, he needed a break as well, but three of the last four years he’s been arguably Chelsea’s best player going forward.

“So I think as a coach I know what I’m going to get from Mount. If he’s fit, if he’s ready in the right place mentally and physically, you know what you are getting.”

Mount’s consistency should be an asset for Manchester United, where he is expected to be a regular starter under Erik ten Hag.

Discussing Maddison and Havertz, Nicol commented: “The other two it starts going downhill a little bit.

“Maddison when the going gets tough he disappears, Havertz I’m not quite sure what he’s going to give Arsenal, because he hasn’t given Chelsea anything the last season. Does he play at Arsenal, does he start? I don’t think so.”

United take on Arsenal in pre-season, and then early into the 2023/24 campaign, with the Red Devils visiting the Emirates in the fourth game week of the season.
