'Extraordinary': United reportedly ready to double the wages of 26-year-old new 'Gattuso'

Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing a second midfielder, with Sofyan Amrabat set for a huge pay rise if a move materialises.

According to RAI Sport via Football Italia, Manchester United are ready to double the Moroccan’s current £30,000 per week salary. It is believed that Fiorentina would want a minimum of €30million (£25.7m) to part with the World Cup breakout star.

United aren’t the only team targeting a move for Amrabat, with the player having tried to force a move to Barcelona in January. Interest is still high as Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich and AC Milan both also have interest, along with inevitable links to the Saudi Pro League.

However the report from RAI Sport goes on to claim personal terms have been agreed between Amrabat and United, with his salary being doubled as the Red Devils insist on the player.

Would Amrabat be a good signing

Amrabat was a fairly under the radar player amongst many football fans until his World Cup performances set his value alight. Being the standout player as Morocco went all the way to the semi-finals before losing to France.

Since then he has been consistently linked with a move to one of Europe’s biggest sides. But if a move to Old Trafford did happen, what could United fans expect?

Amrabat is a defensive midfielder who is also excellent on the ball. His qualities have drawn comparisons to one Italian great, with Fabio Capello calling him “Amrabat the Gattuso of Morocco”.

His performances in Qatar peaked as he destroyed the Spanish midfield. This leading the now ex-Spain boss and rumoured next PSG coach Luis Enrique to heap praise onto the 26-year-old.

Enrique described Amrabat as ‘extraordinary’ following the last 16 defeat to Morocco.

Amrabat would be an excellent player for Erik ten Hag to have, capable of replacing Casemiro during any inevitable suspensions or even playing next to the Brazilian.

However any move would likely hinge on sales being made first due to the clubs current financial situation.
