Manchester United midfielder Fred is attracting interest from Saudi Arabia amid questions over his Old Trafford future.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims that Fred has now decided to pick new agents.
Fred will now be working with the Energy Sports agency, who also represent Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus and a host of other Brazilian talents.
This will only add to the idea that Fred could be on his way out of Manchester United this summer, with those new agents potentially working on an exit.
Romano claims that Fulham ‘will bid’ to sign Fred but there is also interest emerging in Saudi Arabia.
We’re seeing Saudi Arabian clubs splash the cash on the likes of Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante and Ruben Neves with Fred potentially their latest target.
The time is right for Fred to move on
Fred has just one year left on his contract at United and it now seems unlikely that he will land a new deal.
The Brazilian started just 12 Premier League games last season and his inconsistency has held him back for a while.
‘Good Fred’ is everywhere, impacting the game both defensively and going forward whilst proving to be a nuisance to opposing midfielders.
‘Bad Fred’ tends to be erratic and all over the place in the wrong ways, ultimately keeping him from becoming a trusted United star.
Erik ten Hag wants better moving forward and this summer is therefore the perfect time to sell Fred ahead of his contract expiring.
United won’t get anywhere near the £47million deal struck to sign Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018 but some will now hope for a decent chunk of cash thanks to Saudi interest.
Manchester United may need another midfield signing amid Fred exit rumours
United have already landed one new midfielder with Mason Mount completing his move from Chelsea just a few days ago.
Erik ten Hag may plan to use Casemiro alongside Mount with Bruno Fernandes further forward.
That sounds hugely exciting but United fans are understandably concerned about the lack of depth.
Marcel Sabitzer’s loan from Bayern Munich has ended and the Austrian seemingly won’t be coming back.
Add in Fred’s departure and United would lack options behind Casemiro and Mount, with Scott McTominay arguably better off further forward.
Links to Fiorentina star Sofyan Amrabat certainly make sense with United needing another combative midfielder to offer cover and competition for Casemiro.
Fred’s exit may free up wages and funds to bring in another body in midfield, which may become a priority once Andre Onana’s expected move from Inter Milan goes through.
