'Lose something good': Legend fears 30m star may leave for Man United

Fiorentina legend Giancarlo Antognini fears the Serie A outfit will suffer a big loss if Sofyan Amrabat seals a belated switch to Premier League giants Manchester United.

If the last few weeks have taught us anything, it’s that Erik ten Hag tends to keep a very close eye on his favourites.

Mason Mount’s £55 million move to Manchester United sees Ten Hag get his mitts on a player who caught his eye six years ago during a loan spell at Vitesse Arnhem. For his next trick, the former Ajax boss could reunite with Andre Onana, the Red Devils making a new and improved offer of £39 million on Wednesday morning (Fabrizio Romano).

Takeover and sales permitting, Manchester United could then switch their focus to another player who worked alongside Ten Hag in the Eredivisie; former FC Utrecht enforcer Sofyan Amrabat

Manchester United back in for Sofyan Amrabat

Amrabat’s agent – and his older brother – both confirmed that Man United had made enquiries about one of the Qatar World Cup’s most influential performers during the January transfer window.

And with Fiorentina reportedly willing to listen to offers in the region of £30 million now, per the Daily Mail, it should come as no surprise that a player who combines Casemiro’s tackling ability with the line-breaking passing and ball-carrying prowess of an N’Golo Kante or a Moises Caicedo emerge near the top of Man United’s wishlist again.

“If important teams want him, I think he has the opportunity to change (clubs),” former Fiorentina captain Antognini tells Tuttomercatoweb.

Antognini is under no illusions that Amrabat would be very difficult to replace. He was arguably the best player on the pitch as Fiorentina lost 2-1 to West Ham in the UEFA Conference League final last month.

A game in which Arsenal’s new £100 million signing Declan Rice also started.

“He has done very well this year,” Antognini adds. “And, if he were to leave, Fiorentina will lose something good.”
