'Low confidence': Club want Man United star but think he'll snub summer transfer

Paris Saint-Germain are still keen on Marcus Rashford but believe the Premier League star will eventually sign a new contract with Manchester United.

It’s been the same story for months on end. The same eternal headline; ‘Marcus Rashford is close to signing a new contract at Manchester United’.

As of yet, however, official confirmation is yet to arrive, three weeks after The Sun reported that the Carrington graduate was set to become United’s highest earner on a staggering £375,000-a-week.

And with talks continuing to drag on – the story of United’s summer really – reports linking Rashford with a move to long-time admirers Paris Saint-Germain have again reared it’s ugly head.

“The PSG interest in Marcus Rashford is genuine and dates back to last summer,” CBS Sports reporter Ben Jacobs writes on Twitter.

PSG still want Man United star Marcus Rashford

Rashford, as things stand, will be a free-agent in 2024. PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi admitted to Sky Sports back in December that he would jump at the chance to bring Man United’s first 30-goal-a-season player since Robin van Persie to the French capital.

But, as Jacobs is at pains to point out, confidence remains low in the Parc des Princes camp.

“The likelihood remains Rashford will sign a new deal,” Jacobs explains, adding that Kylian Mbappe’s own contract uncertainty is occupying much of the Ligue 1 champions’ thinking for the time being.

“PSG know (Rashford is likely to stay) and have low confidence of success should they chose to move. They are not actively working on Rashford.

“PSG must first resolve the Kylian Mbappe situation. That’s the priority and their focus for now. Nasser Al-Khelaifi has said before he’d love to sign Rashford. But, when PSG explored the deal last summer, sources expressed frustration over talks.

“A meeting was held with Rashford’s camp. And PSG came out of it feeling games were being played, and their interest was being used as leverage.”

‘Marcus wants to stay’

In addition to his 30 goals, Rashford also created 11 assists during by far and away his most consistent season yet in Manchester United red.

“Marcus wants to stay,” Ten Hag said in May, via the Daily Mail. “And we want him to stay. So I think we will find each other (and reach an agreement).”
