Director suggests £25m star 'wants' to join Man United but deal uncertain

Sofyan Amrabat ‘wants’ to leave Fiorentina and join a ‘top club’ this summer but Premier League giants Manchester United are running out of time in their pursuit of the Morocco international.

A fortnight ago, it seemed only a matter of time before one of the Qatar World Cup’s breakout stars was being unveiled as Erik ten Hag’s fourth signing of an impressive summer; joining Rasmus Hojlund, Andre Onana and Mason Mount at Old Trafford.

Since then, however, proposed departures of Harry Maguire, Donny Van de Beek, Dean Henderson, Scott McTominay and Eric Bailly have all hit the buffers.

And with Manchester United under pressure to raise funds before they can complete a potential £25 million deal for Sofyan Amrabat, the Moroccan’s dream move appears to be locked in limbo, nearly a month after Alfredo Pedulla reported that personal terms had been agreed.

Manchester United’s Sofyan Amrabat deal uncertain

Fiorentina will not stand in Amrabat’s way should Man United finally submit a formal offer. But if that does not happen between now and September 1st, Amrabat will be wearing the iconic purple shirt of Fiorentina in 2022/23.

Or even – heaven forbid – the deep red of Liverpool.

“The situation is clear,” sporting director Daniele Prade says, via Football Italia.

“He wants to join a top club and we want to satisfy (his demands). But, if we receive no offers, he will stay with us. We don’t have a player like him in the team.”

Fiorentina want around £25 million. La Viola already have plans in place for Amrabat’s departure too, opening talks to bring in Nicolas Dominguez from Bologna as his successor.

Erik ten Hag wants another midfielder

“If we find a solution together, we will be very happy. Otherwise, (we will keep) a strong player who has shown that he is a professional and that he cares about our shirt,” Prade adds.

“Let’s see what happens between now and the end of the market. There are two weeks left, and (players like Amrabat) are the hot ones. My experience has led me to understand that, in the last four or five days, anything can happen.”

United are also pursuing Everton’s Amadou Onana and Bayern Munich benchwarmer Ryan Gravenberch.
