An injury to Mason Mount brings a return to a successful partnership, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen.
Manchester United needed to do something different this weekend. The tactics employed in the opening two games of the season were not working.
The decision has now been taken out of Erik ten Hag‘s hands, with Mason Mount suffering an injury which will keep him out for two weeks.
The solution is obvious. Christian Eriksen will come in to replace Mount and resume his partnership with Casemiro.

Eriksen and Casemiro a winning combination
It is worth revisiting just how successful the Casemiro and Christian Eriksen partnership was. No team witnessed this quite like weekend opponents Nottingham Forest, who lost four games in league and cup against Manchester United with the duo in the middle.
Between last September and the end of April, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen did not lose a single game they started together for Manchester United. As pointed out via Opta, from their first 17 games played together, the Red Devils won 15 and drew two.
Back to back losses late in the season away at West Ham and Brighton did eventually end their unbeaten partnership, however, at home, the pair remain undefeated.
What Casemiro needs
The opening two games of the season have seen Casemiro too isolated in midfield. Manchester United have lacked control, with Mason Mount high up the pitch and seeing little of the ball in possession.
Christian Eriksen was a second half substitute in both matches and United looked better when he came on.
United will turn to the Dane once again this weekend, and it is a combination which should provide confidence, to both supporters and their teammates.
Together the pair are arguably the league’s best midfield duo, they have the results to prove it. Now is the time to get back to winning habits, and do it convincingly.
