Manchester United's Spanish wonderkid could now be set for Premier League loan, club 'want to sign' him

Burnley could have been handed a boost in their chase for one of Carrington’s finest products, Alvaro Fernandez.

The Spanish defender began his career with Real Madrid before joining United on a free transfer.

He worked his way through Carrington before heading on-loan last season to Preston North End in the Championship.

Here he was a standout, winning the clubs young player of the year award and proving he will be a top level player.

Now it appears he could be the target of interest from a Premier League side, which is the next step in his development.

Burnley want Fernandez

With first-team football unlikely at Old Trafford at this stage in his career, a loan to England’s top division is his best option.

Now according to Lyall Thomas from Sky Sports, Vincent Kompany and Burnley ‘want to sign’ Fernandez.

The report states that Burnley are interested but doesn’t mention the capacity, with it unsure over whether it is a loan, or permanent move.

It is difficult to imagine the club selling the youngster given his stock will only continue to rise.

Boost for Burnley

On Saturday, the Clarets will have been encouraged in their chase for United’s young Spaniard.

Fernandez wasn’t included in the squad for the friendly win over Lens, which could mean something.

Alternatively it could see him playing against Athletic Bilbao in Dublin instead with much of the unused players heading there.

We don’t have long to wait before we find out though, especially given the Premier League season will imminently begin, leaving little time to get any deal done.
