Marco Verratti has seen a potential move to Saudi Arabia collapse amid claims he’s been offered to Manchester United.
This summer has been absolutely dominated by Saudi Arabia.
Clubs over there have been able to complete some of the biggest signings of the window as they seek to raise the profile of their league.
Former United ace Cristiano Ronaldo sparked this rise and we’re now seeing big name after big name head to Saudi Arabia.
Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, Ruben Neves, Kalidou Kouliably, Marcelo Brozovic, Roberto Firmino, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Fabinho, Riyad Marhez, Allan Saint-Maximin, Neymar, Sadio Mane, Franck Kessie… the list just goes on and on and on.
Marco Verratti seemed set to join that list – but a move to Al Ahli now appears to be off.
Marco Verratti sees Al Ahli move break down amid Manchester United links
90Min reported earlier this week that Verratti seemed to be nearing a move to Al Ahli in Saudi Arabia.
A move to Al Hilal had broken down over Paris Saint-Germain’s £51million asking price but Al Ahli were allegedly ready to pay up.
The interesting note in that report was that United had been invited to make a move for Verratti at the last minute.
United are in the market for another midfielder and intermediaries were offering Erik ten Hag and co the chance to pounce for Verratti.
Well, that chance is now completely open as Verratti to Saudi Arabia appears to be off.
Reporter Rudy Galetti claims that Al Ahli have withdrawn their offer for Verratti and the Italian now has absolutely no offers from Saudi Arabian clubs.
Al Ahli have instead decided to strike a deal for Celta Vigo talent Gabri Veiga in a move which has stunned many fans around Europe.
Verratti is the man to miss out now and he is facing up to a very strange final week of the window as he looks to leave PSG.
Should Manchester United make a move for Marco Verratti?
United will have been thinking about the invitation to move in for Verratti.
Ten Hag’s midfield just hasn’t clicked in the first two games of the season and United are looking for another option.
There is no doubting Verratti’s quality; he has been an outstanding player for PSG for more than a decade now, proving to be one of the top midfielders in the world.
It’s hard to see United making this move now though.
Verratti turns 31 in November and United already paid hefty money for a midfielder with a similar age profile last summer, bringing Casemiro to Old Trafford.
United need to go in a different direction now and links to the likes of Sofyan Amrabat and Ryan Gravenberch make much more sense.
Verratti may be available but we can’t see United biting on the chance to bring him to Old Trafford.
