Ex-Manchester United forward gives credit to Cristiano Ronaldo for his development at United

Former Manchester United forward Anthony Elanga will return to Old Trafford this weekend as Erik ten Hag’s side take on Nottingham Forest.

The Swedish forward’s time in the North West came to an end earlier this summer when the forward agreed to join Steve Cooper’s side for a fee in the region of £15 million.

Elanga has been impressive in the early stages of this season for the East Midlands side and you wouldn’t bet against the forward making an impact at Old Trafford this Saturday.

Ahead of his return to Manchester, Elanga has been speaking about what he has learned from his former teammates including a special mention to a former player.

‘I learnt a lot from them’

Cristiano Ronaldo’s famed homecoming didn’t go as well as the Portuguese forward would have hoped for, but one thing is clear, the Al-Nassr forward made a big impact on Elanga’s development.

“Ronaldo is one of the best players in the world, ever,” Elanga said speaking to Sky Sports. “Playing with players like that, like Bruno [Fernandes], Eriksen, Varane, Casemiro, I learned a lot from them on the pitch and outside. Discipline, how they take care of themselves.”

The Swedish forward was given a run in the United team under former manager Ralf Rangnick and he was one of the shining lights of the team in a terrible season in 2021-2022.

Elanga has a point to prove

The winger will certainly have a point to prove when he takes his first steps on the hallowed Old Trafford turf this weekend.

After Erik ten Hag’s poor start to his United career last season, Elanga started against Liverpool and the forward was arguably one of the best players on the pitch as he set up Jadon Sancho’s first goal.

After that, however, the signing of Antony meant that Elanga’s first-team opportunities were, perhaps harshly, limited.

The forward will be hoping to prove to United and Ten Hag that they made a mistake letting him go.
