World’s most expensive player in his position now wants to sign for Manchester United

Manchester United are negotiating with Chelsea over a move to sign Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella.

Fabrizio Romano reports Chelsea are open to allowing Marc Cucurella to join Manchester United if their conditions for loan fee and wages are met.

An injury to Luke Shaw, coupled with Tyrell Malacia‘s own injury problems, means Manchester United have been exploring temporary solutions.

United have been linked with several left-backs in recent days, with Cucurella the most prominent name.

Cucurella wants Manchester United

Spanish newspaper Marca reports Marc Cucurella wants to join Manchester United, amid negotiations between the two clubs.

The outlet adds Cucurella is ‘very close’ to joining the Red Devils, with the two clubs negotiating over a move.

Most expensive left-back ever

Cucurella became the most expensive left-back in world football history last season when Chelsea paid £62 million for his services.

The move topped Chelsea’s previous expenditure on Ben Chilwell, and Manchester City’s million move for Benjamin Mendy.

Cucurella deal would facilitate a departure

Marca add that Cucurella joining Machester United would facilitate the exit of 20-year-old Alvaro Fernandez.

Fernandez was on the bench for United at the weekend, but would be knocked down the pecking order by Cucurella’s arrival.

The report states three Spanish sides are keen to land Fernandez on loan, with Granada, Las Palmas, and Getafe all claimed to be keen.
