Rio Ferdinand was one of the best young defenders of his generation and he made an exciting prediction about Manchester United target Micky van de Ven.
Tottenham are heading for relegation to the Championship, which gives Manchester United an opportunity to raid their squad for potential bargains.
United have shown interest in Micky van de Ven as a centre-back target, and The Athletic have now confirmed that the Dutch defender has been spoken about by transfer chiefs at Old Trafford.
Van de Ven has starred against United in the past, and Red Devils legend Rio Ferdinand spoke extremely highly of the Spurs defender.

Rio Ferdinand tipped Micky van de Ven to become world-class
Van de Ven has been in and around Tottenham’s first team for three years, so it is easy to forget that he is just 25 years old.
In 2024, Ferdinand piled praise on Van de Ven and explained why he believes he has world-class potential.
Speaking to TNT Sports, Ferdinand said: “I really like Van de Ven. I think he’s got the potential to be one of the top defenders around. Just the pace alone, I love seeing it.
“He’s sitting there on the halfway line, purring, waiting to run into the channels and show his pace.
“He very rarely gets beaten in those situations. He’s young, he’s very good on the ball. I watched him – we did a game at Luton – and I thought Luton away, big striker, let’s see what he’s got. He wasn’t ruffled at all. He’s got all the attributes.”
Ferdinand knows better than anyone what it takes to become a top Premier League defender and clearly he believes Van de Ven has what it takes.
Man Utd should be concerned about Micky van de Ven
Ferdinand’s prediction about Van de Ven is an exciting one, and there is a reason why the Spurs defender has been linked to Real Madrid.
There is no denying that Van de Ven is a talented, young defender, but there are also a few red flags for Ineos to be aware of.
Firstly, Van de Ven’s injury record is woeful, and that is the last thing that United need when Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt are injury-prone.

According to StatMuse, Van de Ven has made four errors leading to goals, which is a hugely concerning statistic.
While his physical attributes are impressive, clearly Van de Ven is just as prone to errors as he is to injury.
