12 duels won, seven tackles: 24-year-old was top class for United in Palace defeat

Manchester United saw their season resurgence cut short after two games by Palace, but in defeat Mason Mount still managed to shine.

It hasn’t been the easiest opening few months at Old Trafford for £55 million man Mason Mount. He struggled at first, as he adapted to a new deeper role which Erik ten Hag envisioned him playing.

To make things more difficult for the England international, he missed over a month due to an injury he sustained against Spurs in August.

But since returning to action in the past few games, Mount has looked every bit of the player we expected when we signed him. His passing and intensity in midfield had been pivotal especially in the 3-0 win over Palace on Tuesday.

His best display yet came on Saturday however in the 1-0 defeat, so here are his stats which explain exactly why Ten Hag signed him.

Mason Mount was our player of the game

Mason Mount was great and looking at his statistics on SofaScore explains just how good he was. Mount played 77 minutes in the game before being substituted (a move many fans disagreed with) as Christian Eriksen replaced him.

In the game however he was the best player wearing red, with 70 touches and a 93% passing accuracy which is impressive as he played very progressively. One of his passes was even a key pass which represents he created a chance.

Mount also was hugely impressive in other areas as he won 12 duels in midfield, along with making seven tackles as his intensity consistently helped United win the ball back.

Silencing the doubters

Since his move, Mount has faced wide criticism due to his big transfer fee. However at Old Trafford he silenced them all, despite the result being poor, United dominated possession and probably should have won the game.

Mount will be disappointed not to have also grabbed his first United goal as he headed just over for what would’ve been the equaliser. A big statement performance which should establish his position in the side.
