Agent ends Manchester United rumours and says forward is heading to Mexico

The agent of former Ajax and Feyenoord winger Oussama Idrissi says he is heading to Mexico after being offered to Premier League giants Manchester United.

Well, you can’t blame a man for trying.

With Jadon Sancho joining Antony in being removed from first-team contention at Manchester United for the time being, Oussama Idrissi’s representative spotted an opportunity and wasted little time in ‘offering’ Erik ten Hag the chance to sign a player the manager knows well from his time in the Eredivisie (90Min).

Manchester United ignore Oussama Idrissi opportunity

Idrissi, a two-time Dutch league champion, worked briefly with Ten Hag at Ajax in the 2021/22 season, after terrorising the Amsterdam giants during his time at AZ Alkmaar.

Like with fellow free-agent Anwar El Ghazi, however, United appear to have resisted the opportunity to slap another sticking plaster on their wounded squad, leaving Idrissi to pack his bags and dust off his Spanish dictionary instead.

“Mexican outfit Pachuca made an offer,” Anas El Gouache, the Moroccan’s agent, tells Sport24. “And the contract with Idrissi has already been signed.”

Idrissi will sign a short-term deal at Pachuca, having been released by La Liga giants Sevilla in July.

A right-footed left-winger who loves nothing more than cutting inside and curling shots into the far corner, Idrissi scored seven goals and set up eight more during a loan spell at Eredivisie champions Feyenoord last term. And while Manchester United always felt like a step too steep, it remains a surprise that other, more ‘B-list clubs’ on this side of the Atlantic opted not to take a punt on a 27-year-old with plenty of oil left in the tank.

Rashford and Hojlund are the future and the present

Ten Hag, meanwhile, remains hopeful that – in the absence of Sancho and Antony – Marcus Rashford and summer signing Rasmus Hojlund can strike up a partnership, the latter scoring his first United goal in Wednesday’s 4-3 Champions League defeat at Bayern Munich.

“Yes, absolutely the two can benefit from each other,” Ten Hag tells the United website. “But they have to know each other and that process has only just started. We learn from every training (session), and we learn from every game.

“We have also seen that Rasmus and Rashy are together, they’re talking about how they can benefit from it.

“So you can see that discussion, that interaction on the pitch is going on, and that is a good sign. I’m sure they will get that connection.”
