Eric Bailly sends emotional message to Manchester United supporters, David de Gea responds

Eric Bailly has sent a message expressing his sadness at his long tenure with Manchester United finally coming to an end.

Eric Bailly left Manchester United on a free transfer this week, signing a one-year contract with Besiktas.

It is a fresh start for the Ivory Coast international, who was not part of manager Erik ten Hag‘s plans.

You could ask whether Bailly should have been retained as back-up, considering the club’s need to re-sign Jonny Evans for depth, however, the former Villarreal defender wants to have a chance of playing regularly, and he will stand a better chance of this at Besiktas.

Eric Bailly sends goodbye message

Eric Bailly sent a message out out on Instagram, expressing a big thank you for his eventful time at Manchester United.

He wrote: “As I leave this club after many years of incredible memories, outstanding teammates, and trophies, I want to express my profound gratitude.

“This chapter may be closing, but the friendships and memories will forever remain in my heart. The fans here are the real champions. Thank you for everything, forever United.”

Eric Bailly’s former teammates respond

Eric Bailly was a much-loved player during his spell at Old Trafford, which began in 2016 when he was the very first player signed by former boss Jose Mourinho.

Bailly’s former teammates reached out to him on social media to wish him well and appreciate his message paying tribute to Manchester United.

These included David de Gea and Antonio Valencia, who players who were part of the squad Eric Bailly helped win the Europa League and Carabao Cup with in 2016/17.

Bailly deserves a new start. He is an immensely talented defender who ran out of luck at Manchester United, and eventually, time.

The decision to hand him a contract extension in 2021 was an odd one, and has since been proven unwise. Last season he was sent on loan to Marseille, and this was a disappointing stint for all concerned, due to injuries and suspension.

This whole summer Bailly has been looking for a new club and now he has a fresh opportunity in the Turkish Super Lig, where former teammate Fred is playing for Fenerbahce.
