Manchester United are seemingly in the market for a new midfielder next summer and one man from West Ham could be ready for that step up.
Lucas Paqueta looked likely to move on from West Ham United to join Manchester City for £70 million but that move didn’t happen and the Brazilian stayed put.
Since then, the midfielder has been superb for the Hammers this season and seems unlikely to be at the London Stadium passed the end of this season.
Well, Darren Bent, speaking on Talksport, believes the Brazilian midfielder could well be good enough for Manchester United.
Paqueta’s quality
As mentioned, the Brazilian midfielder is said to be good enough to start at Old Trafford for Erik ten Hag’s side.
Bent said: “I think he’s good enough to start for a Champions League side, definitely.
“He gets into United’s 11, I’d play him alongside Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro, he’d be ideal for them.”
There has, as of yet, not been a credible link with the Brazilian midfielder but he would certainly be a good option next summer.
Paqueta scored four goals and provided three assists for David Moyes’ side last season and has already provided a goal and an assist for the Hammers this season.
Paqueta’s mentality
The Brazilian could have thrown his toys out of the pram after his move to Pep Guardiola’s side fell through but instead, he has got his head down and carried on his superb performances for the Hammers.
This could be the exact sort of mentality United have been looking for.
Paqueta is in a similar mould to that of Mason Mount. The former Olympique Lyonnais man, according to FBREF, excels in progressive passes, as well as tackles, clearances and interceptions – he could be an interesting option.
However, for £70 million, after United forked out £55 million for Mount will probably mean that this deal may well be unlikely to materialise.
