90% passing accuracy, one big chance created: Man United sub proves himself again

Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen came off the bench against FC Copenhagen and was crucial in the Red Devils’ 1-0 win against the Danish side.

Erik ten Hag opted to start Sofyan Amrabat as the number six with Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes as the two advanced midfielders.

The Portuguese midfielder was, at times in the first half, playing as a number eight which allowed the Scottish midfielder to push forward.

However, during the first half, Manchester United really struggled to create any chances of note but it was a half-time substitution that effectively won Ten Hag the game.

Eriksen’s impact

Christian Eriksen was introduced at half-time for Amrabat and made a huge impact on the team and it was his superb cross from the right that was headed in brilliantly by Harry Maguire.

The midfielder completed 90 per cent of his attempted passes and the passes themselves were forward-thinking and it got the Red Devils on the front foot.

The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder also completed one key pass and had one shot on target and, similar to the impact he made on the victory over Brentford, the midfielder’s willingness to play forward helped United massively.

Eriksen to start in the Manchester derby

The Danish playmaker is surely in line to start the Manchester derby and it would be a surprise if the experienced midfielder now didn’t start against Pep Guardiola’s side.

The Red Devils have won their last three games in all competitions, albeit in tight and nervy circumstances and Ten Hag’s side will certainly have their work cut out for them during Sunday’s crucial clash. Eriksen has come on as a substitute to turn all three matches in the team’s favour.

A midfield three of Casemiro, Eriksen and Fernandes could work for the Red Devils and perhaps the question is now turning to just why isn’t Mason Mount being given more opportunities under Ten Hag.

Nevertheless, when Eriksen has been given his chance in the midfield, he has proven he can be the man for United.
