Andre Onana reacts to the moment that might have just been the turning point for his Man United career

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has reacted to his match-winning penalty heroics during the 1-0 victory over Copenhagen.

Erik ten Hag stuck by Andre Onana, who he brought to the club from Inter Milan, and that decision was seemingly proven right by the goalkeeper.

After Scott McTominay gave away a silly foul in the penalty area, Onana, after the mistakes he had made during the defeats against Bayern Munich and Galatasaray, was under severe pressure.

The Cameroon international looked big and dived the right way and it was a strong right hand that kept out the penalty in what was a special moment.

Onana on penalty save

After what has been a tough start to his United career, Onana pulled off a miraculous save that produced the loudest noise seen during the previous 90 minutes at Old Trafford.

“I just do my job for the team,” a rather subdued Onana said to TNT Sports at full-time. “I’m very happy for the team it was a good performance from us tonight.

“Of course, it’s (Onana’s turnaround in form) about resilience we are a very big club with big players it was always just a matter of time for us to click as a team and I think tonight we did.

The moment, which brought Ten Hag to his feet and punching the air, was one long in the making and you wonder if this could be a turning point for Onana and United.

Onana’s big moment

The sheer jubilation that brought Onana’s strong right hand to deny the penalty was euphoric. The penalty award, in the first place, was a contentious one but nevertheless, the composure and bottle the goalkeeper showed was massive.

It was a nice moment for Onana, and indeed Harry Maguire, when the pair, who have received ample criticism for their performances, walked off the pitch soaking in the acclaim.

Following the win over Sheffield United, Onana looked solid and deserved praise well tonight could be the turning point for him.
