Harry Maguire has shown how Jadon Sancho can escape his nightmarish period for Manchester United since his move to the club in 2021.
Manchester United and Jadon Sancho has just not worked. Over two years since his move to the club, the 23-year-old has not, as of yet, nailed down a first-team spot for the Red Devils.
Now, the winger is out in the cold under Erik ten Hag and has been limited to watching the under-18s in action whilst United’s first team were playing Brentford.
Harry Maguire, who was also seemingly out in the cold this summer, has forced his way back into Ten Hag’s consideration and has been a consummate professional.
Sancho shown the way
As mentioned, when Maguire was seemingly out of Ten Hag’s plans, West Ham United were ready to buy him but when that deal fell apart, it looked to be an awkward situation for the defender.
The former Leicester City man could have gone down the same route as Sancho, publicly undermining the club and manager to get what he wanted, but he didn’t.
Instead, like all of his time in Manchester, the defender knuckled down, trained hard and won his shirt back due to the injury issues at the back for the Red Devils.
Sancho, however, went the opposite way. He went against the manager and put himself first over the club, he’s now paying the price for that decision.
Sancho’s sliding doors moment
The winger, who looks set to leave in January, has a chance to resurrect the career at Old Trafford that he seemingly wanted so badly when he was desperate to join the club back in his Borussia Dortmund days.
Sancho’s current standing with the United fanbase is the lowest it has ever been but if he wants advice on how to deal with this and improve, ask Maguire.
The 30-year-old has gone through months, if not years, of horrid abuse and it was a nice moment on Saturday evening when Maguire’s post on X about the victory was filled with praise for his performance.
Sancho can have that too but he needs to follow Maguire’s lead. Swallow your pride, apologise to the manager, and fight for your future at a club you were seemingly desperate to be a part of for so long.
