Man United fans were right, this winger needs to start Tuesday's Champions League clash

Alejandro Garnacho has certainly been unfortunate this season for Manchester United as he has been limited to substitute appearances.

The Argentine winger broke into the first team last season and was electric at times and he got the fans of the Red Devils on their feet time and time again.

Alejandro Garnacho has the issue of being behind Manchester United’s highest earner Marcus Rashford, and has struggled for consistent game time.

Well, it’s fair to say that Rashford has not had the best start for the Red Devils so far this season with just one goal to his name so perhaps the time is now for the teenager.

Garnacho fanfare

During the frustrating defeat to Crystal Palace, the name of one player in particular could be heard as frustrations grew in the second half.

‘Viva Garnacho’ could be heard from the Stretford End during the second half as Rashford’s struggles continued throughout.

Garnacho came on and had a shot on target within the first 60 seconds and got the home fans on the edge of their seats as United pushed for an equaliser.

The goal wasn’t forthcoming, but every time the winger got the ball out wide he took on his man and looked dangerous.

Garnacho deserves a run of games

The Argentine looked superb during the Carabao Cup fixture against the same side earlier in the week and he capped off his fine display with a goal to open the scoring.

The criticism that has been levelled at Garnacho is that he doesn’t make a big enough impact when he starts games for United.

This isn’t necessarily wrong. Garnacho had five goals and four assists last season but, interestingly, the Argentine scored just two of his goals from starts with 0 assists.

It seems the winger’s style of play makes him a threat off the bench against tired opposition but struggles from the start.

However, Garnacho’s goal in midweek came from the start and it seems the winger may well be acclimatising to the physical demands of men’s football.

When he does start, and scores, it sends the wrong message to then drop him to the bench. He should be back in the line-up this week.
