Manchester United fans are all saying the same thing about Geyse performance in Women’s Champions League v PSG

Manchester United Women’s team were in action in the Champions League for the first time.

A crowd of almost 5,000 at Leigh Sports Village were in attendance to watch Manchester United’s Women’s team take on Paris Saint-Germain.

This was the first time United had qualified for the Women’s Champions League, and Marc Skinner’s team acquitted themselves well.

This was the first match of a two-legged qualifier, with the winner qualifying for the group stages.

Manchester United hold PSG to first leg draw

Manchester United came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw with Melvine Malard scoring a second half equaliser.

It was a spirited performance with United competitive throughout, and they were the team pushing for a winner at the end of the game.

Opponents PSG will be favourites to win the second leg as they will have home advantage, and more pedigree in the competition as two-times finalists.

However, United were more than a match for them on the night in the home leg and will head to France with confidence of pulling off a result next Wednesday (18/10).

Melvine Malard may be a star

One of the reasons to be positive is new loan signing Melvine Malard, who now has two goals in two games for the club.

Malard has signed from French powerhouses Lyon, and is already proving herself at United, scoring a well taken header from close range to equalise.

At the weekend she scored a winner in a 1-0 win over Arsenal, and her early goalscoring provides some hope that United have signed a valuable contributor.

Geyse impresses

While one of the stars for United was England international goalkeeper Mary Earps, it was Brazilian forward Geyse who really caught the eye.

The summer signing from Barcelona was signed as a replacement for Alessia Russo. She began this game on the bench, still bedding in, her performance in the second half was outstanding.

She was the player United fans were raving about on social media, with supporters calling for her to start the second leg.

One wrote: “Geyse is a special special player omg. Future balon d’or winner you heard it here first.”

Another added: “Geyse was unbelievable tonight,” while a third fan added: “Geyse Ferreira was definitely #MUWomen best player despite not starting the match.”

Further messages read, “Geyse is such a joy to watch,” and “Thought we’d struggle without Russo but Geyse and Malard may just be perfect replacements.”

“I can’t stop thinking about that Geyse performance”, added another.
