Manchester United fans are feeling optimistic about Mason Mount’s contribution, despite the midweek defeat.
Mason Mount made a successful return a week ago in the Carabao Cup, providing his first assist for the club.
Manchester United’s number seven has then experienced back-to-back defeats at home to Crystal Palace and Galatasaray.
United fans are feeling pretty despondent right now, so it is notable that Mason Mount’s performances are generating positive chatter on social media, even in light of the poor results.
Manchester United fans on Mason Mount
Mason Mount is still in the early stages of his Manchester United career, and we have not seen nearly the best of him yet.
The reaction to his performance against Galatasaray, his first Champions League game for the club, was largely positive.
One fan wrote: “I was very opposed the Mason Mount signing when it first occured but he’s proved me wrong! Since coming back from injury, he’s been one of the standout players every single game regardless of the result.”
A second supporter added: “Mason Mount is so so good,” while another wrote: “Those people who were saying Mason mount was a mistake signing from Erik Ten Hag are slowly shutting up.”
Another fan added: “Alongside Hojlund, Mason Mount is the only other player that could be proud of their performance last night. Can’t believe people were writing this guy off after TWO games.”
A further comment added: “Mason Mount had an excellent game. He was looking to get on the ball at every opportunity. He just needs a goal to really take off.”
Mason Mount numbers v Galatasaray
Mason Mount completed 86 per cent of his passes. To put that into context, this was the highest percentage of any player on the pitch to play 45 minutes or more.
He had four shots at goal, two of which were blocked. One was unfortunate to hit his own teammate.
Mount made seven ball recoveries, plus one interception.
He played 84 minutes before being taken off for Antony in a late tactical switch as United chased the game, but it did not pan out.
There was enough positive in Mount’s display for United fans to clearly be encouraged, and we should expect to see him on the teamsheet this weekend against Brentford.
