Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund led from the front in the Champions League in midweek, and fans were left wishing every player could have performed to the level he did.
New signing Rasmus Hojlund scored his first goals at Old Trafford this week, however, what should have been reason for celebration turned into a depressing night.
United surrendered leads instantly, going onto lose the game 3-2. The side are rooted bottom of the Champions League group with zero points after two games.
The message from manager Erik ten Hag is to fight on. He wants his squad to follow Rasmus Hojlund’s lead.
Rasmus Hojlund sends message
Rasmus Hojlund was the first, and at this point only, player to send a message out on social media after the defeat.
Hojlund posted on Instagram, an image of him looking disappointed at the final whistle.
He wrote: “The facial expression, is enough said. We gotta stick together and work hard from here and onwards! See you all on saturday. Time to bounce back now!”
There was a response from on loan defender Sergio Reguilon, who left two heart emojis underneath the post.
Hojlund is setting the tone
Manchester United need leaders right now, and while Rasmus Hojlund is only 20-years-old, he is giving the team what is required.
It wasn’t just his goals. Hojlund’s build-up play and overall contribution in the final third was excellent.
After the game Hojlund went straight over to goalkeeper Andre Onana to commiserate with him and try and lift his spirits.
United players might be down right now, but they will be glad they have Hojlund leading the line. If he gets the service, he will score goals.
