'The bottom line': Ex-PL owner raises important question about Ratcliffe investment at Man Utd

Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan, speaking on talkSPORT, has poured cold water on the flame of excitement over Ineos’ takeover of Manchester United.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos are set to acquire 25 per cent of Manchester United with a view to eventually taking the reins from the Glazer family in the short to medium term.

Erik ten Hag has had to deal with some choppy waters at Old Trafford this season but the imminent acquisition, which could be approved on Thursday, could be a huge step in the right direction.

However, Simon Jordan believes the United fanbase may well have to be a bit more realistic about what the takeover will do for the club moving forward.

Jordan on the impending takeover

Jordan believes there will not be a lot money available to fund necessary infrastructure improvements.

He told talkSPORT: “The bottom line is, if they’re (Ineos) buying the Glazers’ shares, not issuing new shares, the Glazers are pocketing the money.

“There’s no money going into the football club, so where is the development of this new stadium coming from?”

Ratcliffe’s unknown

There are many questions that need answering about the takeover situation, and Jordan raises a valid point.

The hope will be that, if the deal is ratified this week, Ratcliffe and Ineos answer some, if not all, of these questions.

However, despite Jordan’s rather doom and gloom sentiment, if United fans were told 18 months ago that Ratcliffe would come in buy 25 per cent of the club with a view to the full takeover, as well as improving player recruitment and the facilities, I think 99 per cent of the fanbase would bite your hand off for that.
