Damning evidence shows Man United are the worst-impacted Premier League team by VAR this season

There has finally been some proof that VAR has affected Manchester United more than any other team in the division.

Erik ten Hag was visibly frustrated following the decision to rule out Scott McTominay’s goal due to an apparent offside from Harry Maguire in the build-up.

The opening goal at Craven Cottage, which was checked by VAR for around 4 minutes, was eventually ruled out after Stockley Park seemingly advised referee John Brookes to look at the monitor. TNT Sport described it as a ‘subjective offside’.

McTominay’s goal was ruled out and a report from ESPN has demonstrated how unfortunate the Red Devils have been with VAR decisions this season.

United’s bad luck

ESPN has collated all of the decisions that each side has had that have been overturned by VAR and found that the Red Devils rank bottom of this table.

This essentially means that United have had the most decisions overturned against them. The report cites five incidents where Erik ten Hag’s side have scored goals but a VAR check led to the goals being disallowed.

Arsenal away, Burnley away, Fulham away and Brighton & Hove Albion at home are the games where the Red Devils have had goal decisions not go their way.

Manchester City’s penalty given at Old Trafford is one further decision that went against United.

VAR problems

This league table just reinforces the idea that the Red Devils have not had the luck that maybe other sides have had when it comes to decisions made by VAR.

This also doesn’t take into account the amount of penalty claims that United have had waved away when they arguably were penalties, Rasmus Hojlund against Gabriel Magalhaes at the Emirates comes to mind.

Erik ten Hag needs to say something in the next press conference about the officials, similar to Jurgen Klopp and Mikel Arteta, and hope this helps swing the decisions in their favour.
