4-2-3-1: Predicted Manchester United line-up vs Nottingham Forest

Manchester United will round out the year with a trip away to face Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Saturday evening.

Erik ten Hag will want nothing more on Saturday than to watch his Manchester United side continue as they performed in the second half against Aston Villa.

Ten Hag watched his side put in what felt like a season-changing performance as they revived the game from a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2.

Alejandro Garnacho was the catalyst and inspired United to victory as he scored twice while Rasmus Hojlund also got on the scoresheet to open his Premier League account.

This is an encouraging offensive sign that needs to be carried into the final game of this calendar year.

Manchester United predicted XI vs Nottingham Forest

Given that it’s the final game of 2023 and United faces just two games in a month afterwards, Ten Hag is almost sure to field a strong line-up.

That begins in goal with Andre Onana playing what could be his final appearance before he heads off to AFCON for the month.

Moving into the defence, it’s unlikely Ten Hag changes much through lack of options and also the fact the four that played against Aston Villa were all superb.

So Aaron Wan-Bissaka will start on the right with Diogo Dalot on the left – deputising for Luke Shaw. Meanwhile, in central defence, Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans should both retain their places with few options outside this duo aside from Willy Kambwala.

In midfield, the pairing of Kobbie Mainoo and Christian Eriksen was excellent against Villa and with a chunk of possession expected, they could be the perfect pairing here.

Just ahead of these two will be Bruno Fernandes in the number 10 position, where he will be hoping to be among the goals.

On the right, Garnacho should start after his wonderous brace against Villa on boxing day. Meanwhile, a revitalised Marcus Rashford should start on the left after a very encouraging display in the same game.

Lastly, upfront Hojlund should and likely is a shoo-in to continue in his number nine position. After scoring his first Premier League goal against Villa he will now be keen to continue and add to his tally.

Predicted Manchester United XI vs Nottingham Forest — Onana; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Evans, Dalot; Mainoo, Eriksen; Garnacho, Bruno, Rashford; Hojlund.
