Manchester United fans name worst performer vs Leeds, with 65 per cent of the vote

The Michael Carrick bubble has burst at Manchester United after the defeat to Leeds, with several concerns being raised after the loss at Old Trafford.

Manchester United lost 2-1 on Monday night, after a terrible first half saw Leeds storm to a 2-0 lead before half-time.

In the defeat, poor officiating was partly responsible, but United’s players were so poor, lacking sharpness and any sort of desire, which allowed the visitors to look impressive.

Now that the dust has settled from the game, United fans have had their say on TalkingPoints, revealing whose performance they were most frustrated with.

Manchester United fans pick the clear worst player vs Leeds

There were a number of contenders to be named United’s worst player against Leeds, and we put it to TalkingPoints users in a vote to see who they felt let the team down most.

Given six options, Manuel Ugarte was the standout choice for supporters, as he took 65 per cent of the vote from fans.

  • Manuel Ugarte – 65 per cent
  • Noussair Mazraoui – 18 per cent
  • Lisandro Martinez – 10 per cent
  • Benjamin Sesko – 5 per cent
  • Luke Shaw – 1 per cent

Ugarte was United’s biggest loser from the game, as his outing showcased his limitations in plain view, rather than this being a bad game. It is simply his level.

The defeat saw Ugarte continue his horrid record for United, which has gotten so bad that Carrick felt the need to address it.

Unfortunately for Ugarte, it is impossible to envision a route back for him from here.

United fans debate worst performers vs Leeds

While the votes indicated Ugarte was the worst player against Leeds, users who commented didn’t all share that belief.

One simply said, “Martinez. Experience CB making a mistake like that, silly rule or not. And he was poor before the suspension.”

Another supporter picked Mazraoui, “Mazraoui was shocking today, not the player who played under different roles under Ruben Amorim, like a Swiss knife.”

But some fans reemphasised Ugarte as their choice.

“Ugarte. I don’t think he should play for United again. Mazraoui wasn’t far behind”, one explained.

Another added, “Ugarte just hasn’t got the level of skill, pace, and awareness to be a key player for Man Utd if the team has genuine ambitions of being champions. He isn’t the player people think he is; he just isn’t good enough.”
