£75m defender, proven goalscorer: Three stars Man Utd can target amid reported Ratcliffe transfer plan

Manchester United could go down the route of signing homegrown players once Sir Jim Ratcliffe seizes control of football operations.

We are still waiting for confirmation of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s arrival at Old Trafford.

Ratcliffe is purchasing 25% of United for around £1.3billion and The Mirror claim that he is looking to assume control before Christmas.

Ratcliffe will take control of football operations and that likely means bringing in a new recruitment team to finally get United moving forward.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants homegrown flavour at Manchester United

Ratcliffe may have some ideas of his own though and the Daily Mail reported a few days ago that he wants to land homegrown players.

It’s highlighted that Failsworth-born Ratcliffe watched Sir Alex Ferguson’s United side and wants to bring a similar homegrown feel to Old Trafford.

Finding the likes of Steve Bruce, Gary Pallister, Gary Neville, David Beckham, Paul Scholes and Wayne Rooney isn’t easy.

Ratcliffe seemingly wants to make that a key focus of his approach at United though, and that will leave fans wondering about who could arrive

Here are a few names already linked with United who could tick the boxes for Ratcliffe…

Marc Guehi

Crystal Palace defender Guehi’s name pops up regularly; TEAMtalk suggested in October that United view Guehi as the ideal signing. The England international and former Chelsea man is valued at around £75million, so Ratcliffe would need to dig deep The Manchester Evening News reported in September that United are looking for an athletic, right-sided defender and that could be Guehi.

Jarrad Branthwaite

Branthwaite has impressed in the heart of Sean Dyche’s Everton back line this season. A tall left-footer, Branthwaite has bags of potential at just 21 and United are watching. The Daily Mail reported in October that United are tracking Branthwaite but he did sign a new contract just days later. United already have one top left-sided centre back in Lisandro Martinez but Ratcliffe could be tempted to push for Branthwaite.

Ivan Toney

United splashed the cash on one striker over the summer as Rasmus Hojlund came in, and it would be difficult to splash more another huge sum on a second centre forward. Still, The Mail’s report highlights that United are interested in signing Brentford striker Toney. An experienced Premier League striker to support Hojlund would be ideal and Toney can certainly play that role, scoring goals whilst helping Hojlund develop.
