Kobbie Mainoo’s developing stance on leaving Man Utd in January as ‘first time’ claim made

Ruben Amorim’s stance on Kobbie Mainoo looks to be softening in recent weeks, even if out of necessity, but the player is considering something for the ‘first time’ now.

From calling out the club’s wider academy structure to double down on not playing Kobbie Mainoo, to calling him the future of Man Utd, Ruben Amorim has come a long way.

It looked pretty clear that Mainoo would have started the last two games as well in Bruno Fernandes’ absence, a chance he should get soon.

However, the thawing of ice will take a bit more than a few games in the captain’s absence, especially due to Mainoo’s latest stance.

Kobbie Mainoo latest on leaving Man Utd

Throughout the whole saga, Mainoo has maintained a rock-solid stance that he wants to prove himself at Old Trafford, and failing that, will look for a loan move.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe personally stopped a move for him in the summer, but the situation worsened since then, especially with this being a World Cup year.

However, Mainoo’s stance did not change, as he remained intent on seeking a January loan move and reassessing his position in the summer.

That looks to have changed now, as iPaper reports that for the first time in the whole saga, Mainoo is entertaining the prospect of leaving permanently.

The report states that he’s frustrated with the “misery” he has endured on the sidelines, but, unfortunately for him, United’s stance is not relaxing.

The club remain committed to keeping him, barring a humongous offer that would put them in a position to bag one of their priority midfield targets in January, like Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba, or Adam Wharton.

Ruben Amorim will bat for Man Utd

Mainoo’s stance, if true, comes as a blow to the club, but for Ruben Amorim and Ineos, it is unlikely to change much, if anything at all.

Amorim has said from day one that all transfers, in and out, will be done with the club’s best interests at heart, and currently, selling Mainoo is against that interest.

Not only do United lack midfield depth, but it’s clear that he’s quite aware of the optics of selling a player like Mainoo, whose value to the club is more than his performances on the pitch.

It’s unfortunate that Mainoo is having this year when there’s a World Cup at stake, but ultimately, United will have to look out for themselves.

That means keeping a hold of Mainoo, and certainly not letting him leave permanently. The loan will also be sanctioned only if there’s an incoming in the midfield department.

The ideal case remains that Mainoo performs in Fernandes’ absence, and much like Ayden Heaven, it becomes difficult to take him out of the squad.

Failing that, Mainoo will just have to sit tight and wait for his chance until United sort their squad out.
