Manchester United are interested in signing Japanese winger Takefusa Kubo – a player Shinji Kagawa has previously praised.
United keep throwing money at the problem on the flanks – but are still left seeking new wingers.
Jadon Sancho and Antony haven’t lived up to the hype and United have sadly been left with two very expensive problems.
Sancho is completely frozen out and Antony just isn’t impacting games in the final third.
That means United may look to add another wide man in 2024 – and a new target has now emerged.
Manchester United interested in Takefusa Kubo
The Sun report that United have been scouting Real Sociedad winger Takefusa Kubo – and have watched him at least seven times this season.
It’s stated that Sociedad would be willing to sell Kubo for around £43million having paid just £5.5million to sign him from Real Madrid.
United plan to keep watching Kubo moving forward and could launch a move to sign him in 2024.
The 22-year-old has hit six goals and four assists in 23 appearances, featuring for an impressive Sociedad side.
If Kubo joins United, he would follow in the footsteps of compatriot Shinji Kagawa – who happens to be a big Kubo fan.
Shinji Kagawa has praised United target Kubo
Kagawa joined United from Borussia Dortmund back in 2012 having built up a big reputation for himself, not too dissimilar from Kubo now.
The attacking midfielder never really lived up to the excitement at United and only played 57 games for United before heading back to Dortmund.
United would hope that Kubo would enjoy greater fortunes than Kagawa, and the Cerezo Osaka man is actually a huge fan of Kubo.
Speaking to Marca in 2019, Kagaw hailed a then-wonderkid Kubo as a ‘very good player’ who is ‘very intelligent’.
Kagawa felt that Kubo ‘always makes the right decision’ in the final third, backing him to shine for Real Madrid.
“He’s a very good player,” said Kagawa. “He already speaks Spanish because he was at the Barcelona academy for a bit and this is helping him a lot now. I think he can play well for Real Madrid. He has a very good chance [of succeeding in Spain].
“He’s left-footed and very intelligent on the pitch. He always makes the right decision at the right time,” he added.
Kubo ended up being sold by Real but is now living up to that praise with Sociedad.
That smart decision-making in the final third would be welcome at Old Trafford and we would certainly back him to eclipse Kagawa’s United career if a deal materialises.
