Manchester United are back to winning ways in the Premier League.
Erik ten Hag will be completely thrilled with how his team bounced back against Mauricio Pochettino’s side at Old Trafford.
The first-team squad showed togetherness and passion – shunning some of the dressing room unrest rumours the club has been bombarded with this week.
However, such is life with Manchester United – there is still a monumental amount of work to do for the manager and his coaching staff. One of the issues he needs to address should be something to act on now – as it could mean things get messy later on.
Erik ten Hag needs to address Manchester United goal difference
Manchester United now sit sixth in the table, remarkably just three points behind noisy neighbours – Manchester City.
They also only sit nine points off the top spot. Not too bad supposedly for a club in crisis. However, the thing that sets them apart from all the surrounding clubs? Their goal difference.
United currently sit on zero goal difference, which is dramatically less than all Premier League sides around them.
Premier League Club’s League Position and Goal Difference
- 1st: Arsenal – 19 G/D
- 2nd: Liverpool – 20 G/D
- 3rd: Aston Villa – 14 G/D
- 4th: Manchester City – 19 G/D
- 5th: Tottenham Hotspur – 8 G/D
- 6th: Manchester United – 0 G/D
- 7th: Newcastle United – 18 G/D
- 8th: Brighton & Hove Albion – 5 G/D
Vital for Man Utd with a super-close Premier League unfolding
The reason this is going to be so important to improve is just how tight the Premier League appears to be this season.
There are around ten teams who could all seriously be within a shot at the top four, so the margins are critical.
This is why it isn’t out of the question towards the end of the season that it could all come down to goal difference. It’s happened before, need we remind everyone of the Sergio Aguero deadline day strike.
United need to sort this out sooner rather than later and the only way to do so – is to score goals. They could have had plenty more against Chelsea.
There are no easy games in the Premier League, so this is going to be a tough task. However, we’re due a big win under Erik ten Hag soon… right?
