Man United star doesn't want season to end, loving the game time he is getting under Erik ten Hag

Jonny Evans has spoken about a whirlwind few months at Manchester United following his free transfer to the club in the summer.

Erik ten Hag decided to sign former Manchester United defender Jonny Evans on a one-year-contract as the Red Devils failed to be able to bring in a centre-back signing as Harry Maguire remained at the club.

With the injury problems that United have had this season, Evans has played a lot more than perhaps he thought he would have and he has been superb.

A superb assist against Burnley at Turf Moor for Bruno Fernandes’ volley was a great moment but a brilliant defensive performance at Anfield against Liverpool was a particular highlight.

Evans on season so far

Speaking to the United website, the Northern Irish defender has opened up about a brilliant campaign with there even being rumours that the Northern Irishman could extend his stay at the club, according to the Daily Star.

“I don’t really want the season to end…I am on a great little run, it’s a busy period as a player, playing loads of matches, so I have been lucky this season,” Evans said.

“I have played more matches than I thought I would coming back, so I have been loving it.”

The defender has played 12 Premier League games for the Red Devils as well as two Champions League games. His ability to play as the left-sided centre-back has made him a useful option in the team.

With Lisandro Martinez missing nearly the entirety of the season, Evans has been a vital cog for the Red Devils and he is, ironically, probably deserving of another contract extension at the club.

Evans vital for academy players

Perhaps next season, if United decided to extend the defender’s contract for another season, he could play the role that he probably should have been playing this campaign.

Evans, who has experience of winning multiple league titles, could well be vital for the Red Devils going forward as the club have a crop of exciting young talent coming through into the first team.

Willy Kambwala is one player who could benefit from the 35-year-old’s experience, keeping him around could be crucial.
