'Astronomical' offer was made for £47 million Man United star in January, summer move may be revisited

Manchester United captain turned down an astronomical offer from the Saudi Pro League to move to the Middle East, according to reports.

Since Harry Maguire was stripped of the Manchester United captaincy in the summer following his relegation to a bench option for the Red Devils at Old Trafford, Bruno Fernandes has been awarded the honour of being captain of the club.

Despite the season being a poor one for everyone associated with the club with the pressure building on manager Erik ten Hag, the Portuguese midfielder has been a positive for the Red Devils.

It’s unclear what the future holds for the attacking midfielder, especially if Ten Hag leaves the club and now a Saudi Pro League side are believed to be keen.

Fernandes attracting Saudi interest

According to a report from Portuguese outlet Record, Al-Hilal made an ‘astronomical’ offer for the United midfielder in the January transfer window but the former Sporting Lisbon man turned down their attempts.

According to the report, Fernandes turned down the overtures from Jorge Jesus’ side as he still believes that he has unfinished business in Europe with United.

The signing of the midfielder came at the request of Jesus, who used to be the manager of Fernandes during his time in Portugal, and this means that the Middle Eastern side could come back in for the 29-year-old.

Whether Fernandes would be keen on moving to the Middle East is unclear but it seems Al-Hilal are not giving up on that possibility without a fight.

United losing Fernandes

Since signing for the Red Devils four years ago, the midfielder has been a revelation for United but you do wonder if the Portuguese star would continue at Old Trafford if a monumental offer arrived.

With Ten Hag’s future at the club uncertain following 14 defeats in all competitions, the future of the midfielder, who Ten Hag is such a big fan of, could well be called into question.

However, whilst Ten Hag is the manager and Fernandes continues to perform, he will be remaining at Old Trafford.
