Man Utd fans react to Shea Lacey’s performance vs Brighton as comparison is made to ‘footballing royalty’

Manchester United fans responded to the display of Shea Lacey after the third-round Carabao Cup clash against Brighton at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening.

The Red Devils kicked off their Carabao Cup campaign and Michael Carrick expected his side to bounce back after Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester City.

United manager Michael Carrick made sweeping changes to his starting XI in response to the Red Devils’ Premier League setback at Old Trafford at the weekend.

The Red Devils’ Carabao Cup encounter with Premier League side Brighton was their penultimate clash ahead of the start of the extended October international break.

Shea Lacey’s shooting reminded Man Utd fans of what legendary former winger Arjen Robben did with the ball

Shea Lacey was handed his first senior start for Manchester United on Wednesday and the 19-year-old winger broke the deadlock inside the opening 10 minutes.

United fans on X and in United In Focus’ TalkingPoints platform made immediate comparisons between Shea Lacey’s finishing and what Arjen Robben produced.

One Man Utd fan said: “This Lacey is an English Robben. He’s one of the most excellent-placing shooters in the world.”

Somebody else posted: “Between Robben, [Lionel] Messi and Shea Lacey, I don’t know who has a better left foot, bro. [Three] of the best.”

“Shea Lacey = Robben regen,” a third Red Devils supporter claimed.

Another X user asked: “Shea Lacey or Arjen Robben?”

And a fifth wrote: “Lacey! What a player, that is Robben-esque! Get in! Pathway is there if you’re good enough, and patient enough.”

“That’s Robben-[esque], f—— quality, Lacey,” another fan added.

While a seventh TalkingPoints user suggested: “Robben was deadly. You knew what he was going to do and couldn’t stop him. Lacey looks deadly when he cuts inside, too.”

Following Wednesday’s clash against Brighton at Old Trafford, the Red Devils will travel away for their next Premier League fixture ahead of the international break.

United will travel to Craven Cottage on Sunday afternoon and the Red Devils will face Fulham in a 4:30pm Premier League kick-off time in the UK.
