Premier League legend Alan Shearer has hit out at both Erik ten Hag and Harry Maguire after their post-match comments following Manchester United’s defeat to Fulham.
Erik ten Hag’s men suffered their first defeat of 2024 on Saturday after being outclassed by Marco Silva’s Fulham side in a 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford.
Manchester United were undefeated in their last seven matches across all competitions ahead of Fulham’s Premier League win on the weekend.
Red Devils boss Ten Hag was dealt a major blow ahead of the Fulham match after it was revealed that in-form striker Rasmus Hojlund had been ruled out through injury.
The Dutchman was forced to deploy Marcus Rashford up front in the absence of Hojlund, with United youngster Omari Forson receiving a rare start for the club.
Calvin Bassey broke the deadlock in the second half and fired Fulham into a 1-0 lead before Harry Maguire scored an equaliser in the 89th minute at Old Trafford.
However, Alex Iwobi struck in injury time to seal all three Premier League points for Fulham and dealt a huge blow to United’s top-four ambitions this season.

What did Maguire and Ten Hag say?
Manchester United had won their last four consecutive Premier League matches before their 2-1 defeat to Fulham at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils are sixth in the Premier League table and are now eight points behind fourth-place Aston Villa and three points behind fifth-place Tottenham.
Speaking after the Fulham match, former United skipper Harry Maguire claimed that the first half of the Premier League contest at Old Trafford was “pretty even.”
“Overall, on the balance of play, we didn’t do enough in the first 60 minutes or so,” he said.
“We started the game not great.
“The first half was pretty even, but when you’re not playing at your best, you have to do the basics right.”
Erik ten Hag, on the other hand, surprisingly claimed that United showed “big character” in their defeat to Fulham.
“We should have won this game because the team showed great character,” he said, as per Sky Sports.
“We had slow starts in both halves and Casemiro was a big loss. We lost some stability in the team.
“The goal was very avoidable but we fought our way back in the game, so I have to credit the team for showing big character. We let them slip away.”
Shearer reacts to Ten Hag and Maguire
According to the Premier League’s Matchday Live, Alan Shearer insisted that he “couldn’t disagree more” with what Ten Hag and Maguire had to say about United.
“I couldn’t disagree more with Harry Maguire and Erik ten Hag there,” he said.
“I thought Fulham really deserved to win that game. They missed so many chances.
“Then for Fulham to get the winner in the way they did in the last couple of minutes, I thought they deserved it.”
