Mathys Tel will not be joining Manchester United in the summer, with Bayern Munich looking to include him in their future plans.
Previous reports from Germany suggested that United have already opened talks to try and sign him. Contact had allegedly been held with Tel’s representatives and he has been ‘intensively analysed’ ahead of a possible move.
Manchester United will be looking for a striker in the next transfer window, as understudy or to provide competition with Rasmus Hojlund.
The Kylian Mbappe compared Tel seemed like a decent option – but this rumour will now be put to bed.
Bayern Munich to keep Mathys Tel amid Manchester United links
Ever-reliable transfer guru Fabrizio Romano took to X today with an update on the young Frenchman’s future – which isn’t good news for Manchester United. He wrote:
‘Mathys Tel’s agent Gadiri Camara has met with Bayern director Christoph Freund today. Meeting was very positive — club have confirmed plan to keep Mathys Tel and include him in future project. New deal could also be a topic as Bayern don’t want Tel to leave.’
Romano also confirmed recently that Tel intended to stay – meaning this will probably be the case with both parties on board.
It appears United will need to look elsewhere in the striker department. Tel is an undeniable talent, and the Bundesliga champions have evidently realised this.
With Thomas Tuchel now confirmed to be departing at the end of the season, there was potentially unrest from Tel as to whether he could develop at Bayern.
Now, it’s known that the internal board at the German club definitely believe there’s room for Tel at the Allianz – so where do United go from here?
Manchester United’s next striker… who?
With Anthony Martial looking destined to finally leave Old Trafford, United are in need of a second striker.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed this is a position they will get in the summer – but who? That’s still massively up in the air.
The decision is really whether United trust Hojlund enough now to get another young talent in to develop, or to get a finished article to compete with the Norwegian.
Either way – it likely won’t be Mathys Tel, who’ll remain at Bayern for the foreseeable.
