Manchester United legend Nicky Butt has raised one key concern that he has for Benjamin Sesko, but the main comparison he has made doesn’t feel right now.
Benjamin Sesko has seen a major uptick in his goalscoring form in his debut season at Old Trafford since Michael Carrick replaced Ruben Amorim on a short-term basis.
The 22-year-old Manchester United striker has netted seven times in his last 13 Premier League matches under interim Red Devils head coach Michael Carrick.
Whether on the bench or the starting XI, Sesko has been a key attacking threat for the Red Devils since Ruben Amorim was sacked as Man Utd manager in January.

Why Nicky Butt is fearful of Benjamin Sesko amid the Man Utd striker’s first season at Old Trafford
Benjamin Sesko has taken his goalscoring tally to double digits across all competitions, with the in-form forward netting 12 times in 32 matches this season.
Manchester United legend Michael Carrick has been alternating Sesko in the attacking frontline with summer signing Bryan Mbeumo since his reign started.
Despite putting up strong numbers amid his first season in England, Sesko has raised doubts for the likes of Nicky Butt due to United’s history with strikers.
Butt is nervous that Sesko could end up getting the Rasmus Hojlund treatment at Man Utd and feels that the Red Devils need to sign another centre-forward option.
“What they did with Hojlund was wrong because they brought a young boy in who’s not got any Premier League experience and asked him to carry Manchester United,” he said on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast.
“I’m scared they’re going to do that with Sesko. I know Sesko has done really well of late, but they still need to get another centre forward. We had four top players in that position.”
Benjamin Sesko’s circumstances at Man Utd should be treated differently from Rasmus Hojlund’s situation at Old Trafford
According to reports in 2025, United recruitment director Christopher Vivell pushed for the signing of Sesko amid the Red Devils’ hunt for a striker at the time.
United splashed out a hefty fee to land Sesko ahead of Newcastle from RB Leipzig last summer, making him an important investment pick for the Ineos regime.
Rasmus Hojlund, on the other hand, was not an Ineos investment and was instead a decision from the past that had not worked out for Man Utd before he was loaned out.
Sesko was directly brought into the club to lead the frontline instead of Hojlund, with the Slovenia international now becoming the foundation for building the new attacking set-up.
It remains unclear if United will sign another striker in the summer, but the next forward option brought to the club will serve as rotation and competition for him.
Until Man Utd do make the signing of another striker, Sesko has time to settle in at Old Trafford and establish himself as the Red Devils’ leading forward option.
