Five things learned as Manchester United beat Brentford 2-1

Manchester United made it back-to-back wins in the Premier League by beating Brentford at Old Trafford.

Goals from Casemiro and Benjamin Sesko gave Manchester United a 2-1 win over Brentford to maintain pace in the chase for Champions League qualification.

A late goal from Mathias Jensen gave United a scare, but Michael Carrick’s side held on to claim the three points.

With four games remaining, the Red Devils are now just two points away from mathematically securing a top-five finish.

Here are five things learned from the clash at Old Trafford.

Bruno Fernandes is just two assists away

Captain Bruno Fernandes is marching towards the Premier League assist record in a single season.

By assisting Sesko for United’s second goal, he is now up to 19 assists for the season – just two away from breaking the current record held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.

There are four games remaining in the season for Fernandes to achieve the record…

Big Ben hits 10

United doubled their lead through a well-taken Benjamin Sesko goal, and it means that the Slovenian has hit a milestone in the Premier League.

It was Sesko’s 10th league goal of the season, marking what has been a successful debut season for the 22-year-old.

Interestingly, eight of those goals have come in 2026.

Casemiro is going to be impossible to replace

Casemiro is enjoying the highest-scoring season of his career, and he has saved it for his final campaign at Old Trafford.

The Brazilian is now up to nine goals this season, and waving goodbye to him in four games’ time is getting more and more difficult. As is the task of replacing him.

Michael Kayode passes Old Trafford test

If United are in the market for a full-back this summer then Michael Kayode should be towards the top of the shopping list.

United have been linked to Kayode in the past, and he has had a brilliant season with the Bees.

Despite being on the losing side at Old Trafford, the 21-year-old was impressive on the right of Brentford’s defence.

Michael Carrick changes formation

When United found themselves two goals up at half-time, Carrick decided to make a change to his side’s shape.

Noussair Mazraoui came on to replace Amad Diallo, and United dropped into a five-at-the-back formation.

Similar to the formation used by Ruben Amorim, Carrick showed his tactical flexibility to help the Red Devils grind out victory at Old Trafford.
