Man Utd's current thinking about the Premier League title proves 'Project 150' isn't ambitious enough

Arsenal were crowned Premier League champions on Tuesday night, in what feels like the arrival of a new era that Manchester United cannot miss out on.

This summer feels like a decisive one for Manchester United, with a changing of the guard at the top of the table, meaning it is undetermined who will step up to challenge Arsenal next season.

Pep Guardiola is leaving City, Chelsea are still owned by Blue Co, and Liverpool are keeping Arne Slot.

All of a sudden, Ineos’ project 150 looks attainable. But considering the current stance of United, it might not be ambitious enough.

Manchester United believe Premier League title is winnable

12 months ago, Manchester United were further away than ever from being believable title challengers, but five magic months under Michael Carrick and a third-place finish have next season feeling like a possible challenge.

United have been among the most in-form sides in England since January, and if replicated next season, Carrick could give Mikel Arteta a serious run for his money.

According to the Manchester Evening News, this is the feeling inside United.

The report claims that insiders now believe that a Premier League title is now more achievable for the club than it has been for a long period of time.

This is likely a combination of the form shown since January and the wider circumstances in the league. Perhaps if Carrick had been appointed earlier, this season might have even seen a title charge.

Project 150, to challenge in 2028 on the club’s 150th anniversary, therefore doesn’t look ambitious enough. When, instead, it should happen next season.

Ineos can position United for a 2026/27 title charge

There is no reason United can’t be in the title race next season with no standout side apart from Arsenal.

But ultimately, Ineos will need to back Carrick heavily this summer and build a side with the depth to compete across competitions, particularly in midfield.

If Ineos spends on three top-class midfielders, a forward or two, and a left-back, there is a real chance for United to push toward a league title.

So, with this opportunity opening to United, aiming for a 2028 title with ‘Project 150’ isn’t ambitious enough for Ineos; they must have the intention to challenge next season instead.

However, it will all depend on the summer, which continues to be the most important in a generation for United.

No excuses, it’s time for Ineos to prove themselves and put United back at the top.
