Casemiro has shown how important Michael Carrick could be in development of two Man Utd talents – opinion

Casemiro’s time under Michael Carrick is slowly inching towards its end, but the Manchester United interim boss has had a long-lasting impact on the midfielder.

The 34-year-old midfielder will mark his final appearance at Old Trafford as a Manchester United player on Sunday afternoon for the Nottingham Forest clash.

Casemiro has only two Premier League matches remaining in his Man Utd playing spell before his contract with the Red Devils expires at the end of the season.

The five-time Champions League winner has enjoyed a turnaround in form under Michael Carrick since January and has been a key United first-team player.

Casemiro’s Man Utd connection with Michael Carrick is deeply entrenched in their respective midfield history

Casemiro has started all but one of the 15 Premier League matches that Michael Carrick has led since Ruben Amorim was sacked as Manchester United manager.

The Brazilian defensive midfielder has netted five times in his last 14 league fixtures and has superbly partnered alongside Kobbie Mainoo in the two-man pivot.

Casemiro’s importance has also come to the forefront due to his connection with Bruno Fernandes and ability to tap into his powerful heading from set-pieces.

The former Real Madrid star is keen to see Carrick appointed as the next United manager and feels that connection has been “special” due to their respective midfield history.

“The team improved,” he said on Rio Ferdinand Presents.

“So, for me, it’s a big problem because, in my opinion, he deserves this opportunity. So, it’s special for me because he’s [played in] the midfield [before].

“He talked with me [about the] midfield, from midfield. It’s more easy, you know? But for me, he deserved the opportunity because the team is very comfortable.

“The team played very [well]. We have big wins, big ones. So, for me, he deserved this opportunity.”

Casemiro’s midfield talk with Michael Carrick shows where Jim Thwaites and Tyler Fletcher can only improve at Man Utd

Man Utd’s midfield is on the verge of undergoing a major overhaul ahead of the looming exit of Casemiro and the uncertainty around Manuel Ugarte’s future.

Kobbie Mainoo has already enjoyed an impactful turnaround in form under Carrick, who can play a key part for others like Tyler Fletcher and Jim Thwaites.

Tyler Fletcher, along with twin brother Jack Fletcher, has been able to secure experience with the United first-team squad since his emergence from the youth academy.

Jim Thwaites has not made his senior Man Utd debut, but the 18-year-old midfielder has trained with the first-team squad before when Ruben Amorim was in charge.

Carrick appears likely to become the next permanent United manager and the Red Devils legend’s midfield experience is invaluable for future talent emerging.

Even when an experienced veteran like Casemiro can learn from a former midfielder like Carrick, the interim boss is going to have a massive impact on the likes of Jim Thwaites and Tyler.
