Former Manchester United talent Jovan Kirovski looks set to join Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the AC Milan boardroom.
So many youngsters have become forgotten names at Manchester United.
Some even signed but weren’t able to make first-team debuts due to work permit problems.
Adem Ljajic springs to mind after his 2009 move from Partizan was scrapped.
Going back even further, there was Jovan Kirovski, who also saw a move to Old Trafford run into red-tape issues…
The story behind Jovan Kirovski’s Manchester United career
Many won’t even remember Kirovski being connected to United, but he joined the club as a 16-year-old way back in 1992.
Despite impressing in the United reserve team setup, Kirovski was never able to play a first-team game at Old Trafford.
Work permit issues meant United allowed Kirovski to join Borussia Dortmund in 1996, aged just 20.
Kirovski helped Dortmund win the Champions League before joining Sporting in 2000.
The American did finally feature in English football with Crystal Palace and Birmingham City between 2001 and 2004, but then finished up in Major League Soccer with Los Angeles Galaxy, Colorado Rapids, San Jose Earthquakes and LA Galaxy again.
That career suggests that Kirovski wouldn’t have made the grade at United anyway, but he did pick up 62 caps for the United States, carving out a decent career as a forward.
Kirovski to join Zlatan Ibrahimovic?
Since hanging up his boots in 2011, Kirovski has stayed around football having become LA Galaxy’s technical director in 2013.
Kirovski played a key role in bringing Zlatan Ibrahimovic to LA Galaxy in 2018 and even talked up that his history at United helped him connect with potential signings.
Well, it now looks like former United duo Kirovski and Ibrahimovic are poised to reunite.
Fabrizio Romano reports that AC Milan are in talks to land Kirovski as a board member, possibly as a director of football.
Ibrahimovic is currently operating as an advisor to the Milan ownership and seems to be gaining real power inside the San Siro.
Kirovski is certainly an Ibrahimovic pick given their history together and the American could soon take on a key role with one of Italy’s biggest clubs.
That’s quite the journey for the former United talent, but he hasn’t let his unfortunate Old Trafford spell hold him back from a long career in the game, both on and off the pitch.
