Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes spent time with academy star Shea Lacey while doing his coaching badges.
Bruno Fernandes has been a superb role model for young players at Manchester United, and he has closely followed Shea Lacey’s progression from the academy.
Lacey made an impressive breakthrough to the first team this season, showing glimpses of promise in small cameos in the Premier League.
Lacey continues to train with the first team alongside captain Fernandes, and the Portuguese playmaker has noticed something different in the young winger.

Bruno Fernandes used to coach 14-year-old Shea Lacey
Fernandes has done his coaching badges at United, and he has made it clear that he would love to become the head coach of the club in the future.
As part of his coaching development, Fernandes spent time coaching United’s academy teams, which included Lacey at the time.
Speaking to The Times, Fernandes recalls what it was like coaching a young Lacey and what has changed since his step up to the first team.
“I was actually coaching Shea Lacey. He was 14,” Fernandes said.
“I’ve told him he’s changed, he’s become a grown man and he’s listening more now than he was listening at that time! But you could see already he had something different than the other ones.”
Shea Lacey needs first-team opportunity under Michael Carrick
Lacey has yet to return to first-team action since his controversial red card against Brighton in January.
The teenage winger is yet to make an appearance under Michael Carrick, as Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo have been rotating on the right wing.

With seven matches remaining in the 2025/26 season, Lacey is running out of opportunities to impress before the end of the campaign.
The 2026 pre-season will be key for Lacey to impress and earn a first-team spot ahead of next season.
